Sammi Fletcher
Sammi Fletcher works to investigate intervening spaces from the point of view of the traumatised female gaze. Examining the void caused by questions of identity, memory, trauma, and the underpinning hegemonic role - through exploring the tensions between figuration and abstraction, statistics and the individual. She incorporates the spaces between works into the narrative, blurring the lines between painting and installation. Every element of her work holds significance, from surface to direction of line, palette to medium employed. Her luminous paintings evoke unease through gesture and often violent treatment of surface.
