Cheltenham Open Studios launches new, members’ association

Cheltenham Open Studios has launched a new, members’ association. By networking artists together, it aims to further raise the profile of visual arts in the area.

With nearly 200 artists exhibiting, the 2009 open studios event was the largest in the organisation’s 10-year history, highlighting the depth and breadth of the visual arts in this area.

Speaking about the launch, Seán O’Sullivan, newly appointed Chair, said:

“There is a lot of great art being created in the area, but people don’t often get to see it. We want to make people aware of the diversity of talent on their doorsteps and inspire and encourage local artists to share their work in the wider community. Feedback from participants in last year’s Open Studios event highlighted a desire among artists to network and collaborate formally on an ongoing basis. As an organisation in touch with so many artists in the area, we felt we are best placed to make this happen, the web being the most obvious way to do it.”

The association’s new website is set to become the definitive directory for artists working in the area. It will also be the place to head if you want to know what’s on locally.

Cheltenham Open Studios plan several Taster Exhibitions, this summer, as it builds towards its main event, pencilled in for Saturday 4th to Sunday 12th June 2011. We will post details as soon as they are confirmed.
