Molly Abbott

I am making hand built ceramics - often based on bowl forms, but sometimes moving towards taller pieces - so they could be classed as vessels. However, because of their sculptural characteristics I hope they can be viewed as stand alone pieces, which are easy on the eye. I use a white/cream earthenware clay mix and create surface textures and patterns, which are enhanced with clear swathes of colour - blues, greens and turquoises are favourites, with the occasional contrast of a yellow or orange. A silken transparent glaze brings these surfaces to life in the kiln. Inspiration usually comes from the natural world of plants, landscape and weather, though a recent a trip to Uzbekistan has proved influential.
