Visual Art in our Hospitals

Art has the power to transform impersonal, sterile environments into engaging and absorbing spaces. This is particularly true in hospitals, where art can have a positive effect on patients, staff and visitors.

Cheltenham Open Studios is a not-for-profit association of artists seeking to engage local people with the art being created on their doorstep. As advocates for visual art, we are committed to ensuring that spending cuts don’t mean art disappears completely from our hospitals’ walls.

COS and Heritage Open Days Join Forces For Another Year

COS once again will join Heritage Open Days with an exhibition at St Lukes Church.

Cheltenham participates in this prestigious annual national event by opening over 30 buildings of architectural interest from 12 - 15 September.

COS13, A festival in all but name (8 - 16 June 2013)

Among the festival event highlights, taking place in Cheltenham this year, is COS13. This biennial celebration of the visual art being made in the area has become an important part of the cultural landscape for artists and art lovers alike. When it started, in 2001, just 46 artists took part; in 2011, the last time the event was staged, over 10,000 people visited the studios, workrooms and exhibition spaces of over 200 artists working in Cheltenham and its surrounds. And this year’s event should be even better.

As we start to plan for our Open Studios event next year we have great pleasure in announcing that the COS13 registration packs are now available.

We are working on some really exciting things that we hope will give even more opportunities to engage local people with the amazing art being created in the area.
