Pete Garrard
Artist and teacher.
I fell in love with clay at the age of 12; gained a Ist class degree at Manchester Polytechnic and I’ve continually created my own ceramics and taught it in secondary and FE in Cheltenham and now from my studio in Elmbridge, Gloucester. My inspiration has been wide-ranging, but as a result of my experiences during Covid, I now work with the figure, particularly male, focussing on Sexuality and The Human Condition: surface strength and perfection, contrasted by inner turmoil and frailty. Alongside this, I’ve always drawn and painted and I am experimenting with combining my love of intense colour and mark-making that’s possible in ceramics and watercolours to create visual stories, portraits and figure studies.
In recent years I’ve been exhibiting with @incla.y in Cheltenham and with @apollo_queer_art in Lisbon, Madrid, Durban and London.
